In this blog post, I want to discuss awareness and why it’s such an important focus when managing PMDD, especially at the beginning when you’re finding your flow and working out how to manage it in line with your own needs.

One of the biggest problems I had with my health was living with a blindfold on for so long.

Not only did I go undiagnosed for so many years, but I’ve had layer upon layer of trauma and grief from a very early age which followed me into adulthood, so I chased my tail for a very long time.

I wasn’t paying attention to where I needed boundaries, not only with others but with myself.

I didn’t know all my triggers. I simply wasn’t watching what was going on around me or listening to my body and intuition.

I didn’t know my limits and would burn out physically, mentally, and emotionally far too many times.

I wasn’t prepared and didn’t have backup tools to help me through.

I had to work out how to help myself and it wasn’t easy. I had to be honest about the role I was playing.

Only once I became truly aware of my body, mind and overall health did I have the space to get prepared and make decisions according to MY needs.

It takes time, love, and attention. 

There is no overnight fix when treating, managing, and healing PMDD. It’s a journey and something you’ve got to get to grips with by nurturing yourself and this disorder, not berating yourself or fighting against it – doing that has the opposite effect and only makes things worse.

And it starts with YOU. 

 

It starts with strengthening your mind and giving yourself the best chance to succeed. The fact is, there is plenty you can and should be doing that your doctor can’t do for you.

YOU decide what journey you want to take, whether you choose medication, birth control, a natural path, or a bit of everything

YOU decide what boundaries you need in your life

YOU are the one living in your skin, doing the work, often trying to keep your head above water.
